She said Mamma for the 1st time!!!

November 6, 2007
I was playing with Stormie before I had to go to work and I started kissing her neck and she did a sort of laugh not a full blown laugh but more of a grunt type laugh. Twice! This was the first time she did this!

November 6, 2007 3:15pm
I went to Mrs. Jan to feed Stormie for my lunch. I took her in Mrs. Jan’s bedroom to feed her like I always do. And I laid her on my legs so I could get situated and she did a whine and then said ma ma!!! I was so excited! I fed her and then told Mrs. Jan. I was so excited that this was her first word and I heard it. She is 3 months and 4 days old.

I went to Mrs. Jan to feed Stormie for my lunch. I took her in Mrs. Jan’s bedroom to feed her like I always do. And I laid her on the bed so I could use the bathroom. I came back in there and she had her lip stuck out and she said MA - MA again! I hollered for Mrs. Jan to come and she did and started talking to her and Stormie didn’t do it again. But I heard it and that is all that matters. Ha Ha

She has now also got down the kissing thing. She will have her mouth closed and you say something to her about kisses and she will come at you with mouth wide open and kiss you and then go back to normal with her mouth closed. It is so sweet!

Stormie’s sickness

On September 29,2007
Stormie woke us up coughing and gagging on snot and she could not breath. I used the suction to clean out her nose and the next morning she was not any better.

Sunday September 30,2007
This continued and I called the after hours number for Dr. Russ. They told me to get her some pedicare nasal decongestion and some saline drops and try this. Well she started running a low-grade temp. Like 99.9, 99.7… anything with 99 something… So

Monday October 1, 2007 I called Dr. Russ and explained to them that she was not doing any better and what should I do? The nurse said they needed to see her since she is so small. I took her in and Dr. Russ said to give her some Triaminic strips for cough and congestion. She said also get her some nose drops that are medicated and give to her 3 days in a row only and this should help her.

I took her back on Wednesday October 3, 2007 because she was getting worse and still running a low-grade fever. Dr. Russ then decided we needed to take Stormie’s blood to get a count on her white blood cells. It was like 18 thousand something. She said to just continue with the Triaminic and this should clear it up and she thought she had a cold. Well the entire week still no change she just continued to get worse.

So on October 8,2007 I decided to get a second opinion because she had been running the low-grade fever for 10 days. I took her to Dr. Larkin he did a white blood count and it was 17 thousand something. He also did a chest x ray. Dr. Larkin said she had a touch of bronchitis and a cold and he put her on amoxicillin. I gave this to her for about 8 days. He asked me to bring her back that Friday to check her blood count. I did and it was down to 10 thousand something. Which they said was good and Karen gave her some anti biotic ointment for her vagina in case her diaper rash turned into a yeast infection over the weekend. She did get somewhat better and the fever broke that Tuesday. So on Saturday the 13th she broke out in a rash all over her face, forehead, and all in her hair. And the low- grade fever came back. I decided to wait and see if this would go away. It did not go away and he cough and all continued. So I called Dr. Larkin again and I took her back on that Tuesday October 17, 2007. And Dr. Larkin did blood work again. Her blood count was down some but still a little high it was 13 thousand something. So he told me to just keep an eye on her because she is still fighting an infection.

On October 19, 2007
I took her to Dr. Russ’s office for her 2-month check up. I told them I did not think she needed her shots since she has been sick with a low- grade fever for a while. It was 100.0 and they said that this was not running a fever but just in case she was still way sick she would take her blood to make sure she was ok. She took it and it was 17 thousand something and she said this is nothing to worry about and she must just have a cold and could get her shots. So they gave her the shots. She did run a low-grade fever and it stopped that Sunday.

She did ok for a few days then her nose got stopped up and runny she started gagging on that stuff again. So I called Dr. Larkin he suggested I give her a small amount of benadryl and see if this would help her. I did this for a few days and still did not help. So on Tuesday October 30, 2007 I called Dr. Larkin and told them she was not better and that morning she had thrown up a lot. And usually it is just a small amount. Dr. Larkin said he would like to see Stormie since the benadryl is not working. So I told them ok I would see them in the morning.

Well that day while she was at Mrs. Jan she had slept a lot when I came to feed her I had to wake her to eat and she didn’t eat much and then she fell asleep again and she slept from about 3 till 6 and did not eat anything from 1:35pm that day. When I got there I woke her to feed her and she ate a few minutes and then fell right back to sleep. When I got home with her she started crying more than normal. I decided to take her temperature because earlier it was 99.2 and I thought well it could run up. And that may be why she is crying. So I did and it shot up to 100.4. (Well I have been told by Dr. Russ that if it gets to that contact a doctor. And Dr. Larkin said if it got to 100.0 call him). Well I called the Franklin Co hospital about 15 times and did not get an answer so I called Dr. Larkin’s home and his wife said he was not there and she thought I should take Stormie to the hospital and he was not on call. So I went to Meadville hospital and there was no doctor there and they said they didn’t know when one would be there so I decided to take her to Natchez thinking I would get in and out quick. And I called the Natchez hospital and they said bring her in.

Well once I got to Natchez at 8:05 pm and I waited 4 ½ hours before I seen a doctor. Then the doctor (Dr. Farmer) came in and all he did was look in her ears, listen to her chest, and feel her stomach. I had to make him look into her throat because he said he didn’t want to irate her. I told him that I didn’t care what we had to do we need to find out what was wrong. Well he told me when he listened to her chest that he thought he heard a heart murmur but he said nothing to worry about and he should not of said anything to me. Then he listened to her chest said she sounded wheezy but nothing to worry about and then he did finally look in her throat and said it was red but nothing to worry about. He said since she seemed fine at the moment she was ok and seemed like nothing was wrong. But when we arrived at hospital her fever had rose to 100.5. He suggested she might have a virus from her cousin (he got this because he asked if any kids have been sick around her I told him yes my niece but hers was from an allergic reaction from antibiotics.) But he did not listen to me he kept saying she had a virus from the cousin. He said I needed to keep the appointment with Dr. Larkin and take her to him in the morning. So he did not do anything at all for Stormie.

The next morning October 31, 2007 I took her to Dr. Larkin. He took her blood and it was 16.8, which he said was way to high for her. He said she had a bacterial infection and it seemed respitory. He gave her a shot of rocephin. Also he said that he didn’t hear a heart murmur and her throat was not red and she was not wheezing. Said to bring her back the next day November 1, 2007 for more blood work and another shot of rocephin. I did and her blood count had gone down to 12.3 and she has been doing better since. It is now November 7, 2007 and she is not sick at the moment. Thank goodness.
